Dearborn Police Officer Arrested for DUI

An off-duty police officer allegedly struck three vehicles near the area of Audette Street in Dearborn over the weekend. The following arrest information was supplied by the Dearborn police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

An off-duty police officer for the city of Dearborn was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on April 20.

According to police reports, Dearborn police were dispatched to the area of Carlysle and North Hampton Court around 12:31 a.m. after receiving a call that a black Ford Taurus had struck a tree and continued traveling northbound on Audette street.

A nearby witness informed officers that he observed the suspect's car strike a tree on the north side of Carlysle at Culver Street. The witness followed the car as it left the scene northbound on Audette. As the suspect crossed Village Street onto Audette, his vehicle struck a vehicle, whose driver also followed the suspect from Audette to Donaldson Street. The car then struck a 2013 GMC Acadia on Donaldson Street before coming to a rest in the middle of the roadway, police said.

The suspect handed officers his police ID and exited his car. Officers noted that the man was barely able to stand and walk out of his car and into the awaiting patrol car, according to reports.

Officers notified the suspect of his rights and administered a preliminary breath test that had a registered reading of 0.265, three times the legal limit for intoxication.

He was transported directly to Oakwood Hospital for a CAT scan and treatment for severe dehydration.

He has been charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. The suspect will be arraigned in front of Judge Samuel Salamey in the 19th District Court on Thursday.
