Dearborn Police Nab Suspects in Multiple Catalytic Converter Thefts

Dearborn police announced this week that they believe the culprits of a string of catalytic converter thefts in the city and beyond have been caught.

Ronald Peterson and Fayonia Berry, both of Detroit, have been charged with multiple felony larceny counts in Oakland and Wayne county.

The –in conjunction with communities in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties–have been investigating thefts of more than 100 catalytic converters from cars.

On April 4, the Dearborn Special Operations Unit saw a vehicle matching the description of one listed in connection with multiple reported catalytic converter thefts.

Officers followed the suspects through several communities, leading them to Madison Heights, where officers in that jurisdiction saw the suspects steal three converters from cars before arresting them.

Peterson and Berry were charged by the Oakland County Auto Theft Unit with three felony larceny from vehicle charges. Bonds were set at $15,000 and $10,000 respectively.

On April 11, the Dearborn Police Department also charged Peterson for Dearborn incidents, including five counts of felony larceny from a vehicle and one count of obtaining and concealing a stolen car.

This is Peterson's habitual fourth notice in Wayne County.

Peterson was arraigned in Dearborn's in front of Judge Richard Wygonik on April 13. His preliminary exam is set for April 27 at 9 a.m.

“This is an example of how regional partnerships and citizen assistance allow our department to be more effective in defeating the criminal element,” commented Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad.
