Dearborn police are alerting residents to secure their homes after a rash of home break-ins were reported on Thanksgiving.

According to the Dearborn Police Department, five home robberies were reported on Thursday – all in the neighborhood just north of .

Three of the break-ins were reported on the 1600 block of Kingsbury; one on the 1800 block of Kingsbury; and one on the 1100 block of North Lafayette. Lt. According to Penman, access to all but one of the homes was gained through a back or side window – some left unlocked, others broken into. At one of the homes, a door appeared to be pried open.

The extent of stolen items is not known at this time.

Penman said police believe the crimes were committed by the same people.

"Because they’re in such close proximity, it would seem reasonable that it was the same person or persons who committed them," Penman said. "But you never know. We’re looking into it to see if we can develop some further leads."

Police sent out an alert via Nixle, reminding residents "to ensure that all of their doors and windows are secured, lights are on, and their security systems are armed when they leave their homes, especially when leaving for extended periods of time."

Chief of Police Ronald Haddad assured that, “the Dearborn Police Department will work diligently to identify, arrest, and prosecute the responsible parties.”

“We must all work together to ensure the community has a safe and pleasant holiday season," he added in a statement. "If you see something suspicious, please report it immediately.“

Police are asking anyone with information about these incidents to call the Dearborn Police Tip Line at 313-943-3012.
