Dearborn Police Arrest Men Attempting to Steal Catalytic Converters

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Police say three men who were witnessed trying to steal a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked in a grocery store lot were found with seven other stolen converters in their possession.

Detroit residents Deshuan Parker and Corey Hough, along with Tyrone Daniel of Clinton Township, were arraigned earlier this week in the Redford 17th District Court by Judge Khalil. The men were each charged with six counts of felony larceny from a vehicle, and felony selling of non-ferrous metals. All three suspects were given a $750,000 bond.

Their arrests stem from an incident that occurred on June 21. According to police, the men attempted to steal catalytic converter from a white Jeep Liberty at the Eastborn Fruit Market in Dearborn. Officers from Dearborn's Special Operations Auto Theft Unit conducted an investigation into recent catalytic converter thefts in the city.

On June 27, officers observed the white Jeep traveling in Clinton Township through Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. After watching the suspects remove a converter from a vehicle, an arrest was made.

Dearborn officers worked in conjunction with the Redford Police, Southfield Police, Wayne State University Police, Western Wayne County Auto Theft Unit and the Detroit Police Department on the case. Prosecution in this case is being handled by the Western Wayne County Auto Theft Unit and the Wayne County Prosecutors Office Auto Theft Unit.

"I would like to commend the officers from all of the involved departments for the multi jurisdictional investigation," Dearborn Chief Ronald Haddad said.
