Dearborn Men Arrested for Drag Racing, Fleeing Police

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two Dearborn men were arrested for allegedly drag racing near Ford and Chase roads on Sunday evening, police said.

The incident took place at 10:48 p.m. involving a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix and a 2013 Dodge Charger.

According to reports, officers on routine patrol observed the vehicles approach a red light on eastbound Ford Road. When the light turned green, the cars accelerated at a high rate of speed with squealing tires, and began racing down Ford Road.

Dearborn police officers pursued the vehicles and recorded the speed at 90 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone. When the vehicles approached Schaefer Road, officers turned on their lights and siren to warn nearby drivers of the danger.

The vehicles passed through Schaefer Road and turned south onto Bingham Road, where officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Bingham and Ruby streets.

Both a 17-year-old and 19-year-old driver were arrested and taken to the Dearborn Police Station. The Pontiac Grand Prix and Dodge Charger were impounded for drag racing.
