Dearborn Man Charged in Detroit Drug Bust

Detroit police seized more than 11,000 marijuana plants and paraphernalia from a location in Detroit Aug. 24.

Update, Dec. 6: Charges against Dearborn resident Robert Blurton were dropped, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Both of the other defendants were sentenced to two years probation.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday that three men have been charged in connection with a major drug operation in Detroit.

Jimmy Berry, 54, of Waterford, Robert Blurton, 49, of Dearborn and Garcia Nelson Figueroa of Detroit were arrested Wednesday by the Detroit Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff's Office for a large grow operation at a building located at Chene and St. Joseph.

More than 11,000 marijuana plants were confiscated, as well as drug paraphernalia. The three men were arrested at the scene.

Berry has been charged with the manufacturing, creation and/or possession with intent to deliver marijuana, 200 or more plants of marijuana and felony firearm. The charges carry 15 and two-year sentences, respectively, if convicted. Blurton and Figueroa have been charged with the manufacturing, creation and/or possession with intent deliver marijuana, 200 or more plants–also a 15-year felony.

"This is a significant drug operation that was shut down," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. "Although this is an excellent accomplishment, we know that others exist and there is more work to be done."

Berry, Blurton and Figueroa are expected to be arraigned Friday at Detroit's 36th District Court.
