Crime Report: Thousands of Pills Stolen from Dearborn Pharmacy

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Thousands of prescription pills were reported missing in a recent break-in at a Dearborn pharmacy, according to Dearborn police reports.

Officers responded to the Schaefer Pharmacy just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, after the store's alarm went off. Upon arrival, police found that the glass window of the front door had been shattered, and the store was in disarray.

The owner arrived at the store and confirmed that items appeared to be missing. He reviewed surveillance video footage with police, which showed two men entering through the front door. One climbed over the counter and into the pharmacy area, which was surrounded by bulletproof glass. Once inside, he began removing prescription bottles from the shelves and placing them in garbage cans from the store.

The men were shown on camera exiting through the front door and running west into an alley, where a parked getaway car was waiting.

The owner of the store confirmed that at least 1,000 Vicodin; 3,000 Xanax; and 2,000 Valium were taken. He told police that it was possible more items were taken, but that he'd have to perform a complete inventory check to find out exactly how many.
