Crime Report: Thefts Reported at Two Dearborn Middle Schools

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two thefts were reported at Dearborn middle schools this week, according to Dearborn police reports.

A mother of a Bryant Middle School student called police on Saturday afternoon to report that her daughter’s trumpet had gone missing from the school.

The resident said her daughter told her she had last seen the instrument at the end of the school day on Wednesday, around 3 p.m. On Thursday, she went to retrieve the trumpet and couldn’t find it.

The instrument had still not been located on Friday.

On Friday, Oct. 5, an employee of Stout Middle School in Dearborn reported that her Apple iPhone 5 had gone missing, and that a student was suspected of taking it.

The employee told police that the 14-year-old student had been in her office, at which time her cell phone was on the desk in plain view. Several office members told police that they saw the student return to her office after she had left.

Assistant Principal Carol Cizek told police that she and the employee had both spoken with the student, who denied taking the phone.

A Dearborn police officer on the scene also spoke with him, and while doing so, noticed “a small bulge in his front waistband.”

The officer asked the student to stand up and removed the iPhone, which was identified as the employee’s property.

The student was suspended and released to his mother. Officers told her the Dearborn Youth Bureau would be following up on the case.
