Crime Report: Repeat Arson Discovered at Lapeer Park

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Multiple cases of arson were reported at Dearborn's this week, according to reports.

Police responded to the south Dearborn park around 11:30 p.m. on July 4 to assist the Dearborn Fire Department with a report of a fire. They found what appeared to be the word "Moto" or "Mojo" burned into the ground on the park's biggest hill. A minor fire still blazing on the grass was quickly distinguished by firefighters.

According to reports, the Fourth of July fire was the third such incident reported in the past week.

Officers at the scene detected the "heavy odor of gasoline," but were unable to locate any accellerants.

No suspects were named in the crime.

In that case, responding firefighters and police officers found that a fire had been started underneath the playground's jungle gym, badly damaging some of the park structures. Six teenage males in the area were searched, but no evidence was found that would lead police to believe they were responsible.
