Crime Report: Rash of Car-Related Thefts Reported in Dearborn

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A number of vehicle thefts and break-ins were reporte within the past week in Dearborn–several of them in parking lots off of Mercury Drive, according to reports.

On Sept. 7, the owner of a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country parked his vehicle in the parking lot around 11 p.m. He returned a half hour later to find that the vehicle had been broken into. Missing items included three cell phones, a wallet, the car radio and a GPS unit.

Then on Sept. 9, police were investigating one report of stolen tires from the Courtyard Marriott parking lot on Mercury Drive when they discovered a second tire theft. Both had occurred overnight, the owners of the vehicles said.

Management at the hotel told police that a number of thefts of tires and GPS units had been seen in that area recently.

Several other car break-ins and thefts were reported over the past week as well.

A Jeep Cherokee parked next to the garage of a home on the 5800 block of Calhoun had its passenger side window broken out overnight on Sept. 7. The owner told police that her GPS unit, sunglasses and perfume were taken.

Also on Sept. 7, a Town and Country was broken into around 8:30 p.m. at . An employee told police he saw two men tugging on the door handles, but did not think it was suspicious at the time. The owner reported that nothing appeared to be missing.

On the morning of Sept. 8, a third Town and Country parked on the 4800 block of Argyle was found broken into, with its navigation system missing.

Lastly, a Dodge Caravan parked on the 5100 block of Horger was reported missing.
