Crime Report: Man Arrested in Dearborn for Intent to Sell Pound of Pot

A routine traffic stop Monday night turned into an arrest for intent to sell marijuana, according to Dearborn police reports.

Police pulled over a car around 7:40 p.m. Monday on the 24000 block of Michigan Avenue because of a burnt out license plate lamp. According to the officer who filed the report, he smelled the scent of marijuana coming from the car, and asked the driver to get out.

The driver admitted that he had pot in the car, but also said that he had a medical marijuana license, although he could not locate it immediately. The man—who identified himself as a 32-year-old resident of Eastpointe—also acknowledged that he knew he had more than the allowable amount in his possession, and that he knew it was not supposed to be in his car, but that he "did not trust the people he lives with."

Police searched the car and found a grocery bag containing five bags of marijuana, totaling one pound and one ounce.

The passenger in the car told police that the driver had just bought the drugs in Inkster for $800, and that he bought such a large amount because "he sells it."

Police released the passenger, but arrested the driver for intention to sell illegal drugs. The man's medical marijuana card was later located in his wallet, which was in the car.
