Crime Report: January Sees Dozens of Car Thefts, Break-Ins

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

January was a busy month for criminals looking to make off with goods from vehicles in Dearborn, according to reports.

A slew of continued, with thefts of the car part on Jan. 23 from a Honda Element parked at the Team Detroit offices on Town Center Drive; two Oldsmobile Aleros on the night of Jan. 21 in front of a home on the 6100 block of Appoline; a Pontiac Grand Am on Jan. 25 from the lot of ; and from a Pontiac Montana on Jan. 28 in the lot of .

An employee of Garden Foods on Wyoming reported a theft of 48 truck batteries worth $106 each on the night of Jan. 21. A total of 16 company-owned trucks had three batteries each taken.

Several other reports noted vehicles broken into in residential areas, including the 2600 and 1900 blocks of Hollywood on Jan. 21; Jan. 19 on the 4300 block of Seymour; Jan. 23 on the 7200 block of Reuter; Jan. 22 on the 7500 block of Maple; Jan. 23 on the 3100 block of Edgewood; Jan. 22 on the 1400 block of Hollywood; Jan. 22 on the 3300 block of Detroit; Jan. 22 on the 1900 block of Houston

Vehicles were also reported as stolen on Jan. 23 on the 7500 block of S. Morrow Circle; Jan. 23 on the 7600 block of Appoline; Jan. 19 at the lot of the store at 5800 Mercury; Jan. 20 from the lot of the on Schaefer.

Dearborn police reminded residents of tips to keep their cars safe, including removing all valuables from and locking parked cars. Also, residents are reminded to never leave their cars unattended while running, espeically given recent increases of .
