Crime Report: Arson at Ford Woods Park

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A passing driver spotted an arson being committed at a Dearborn park last weekend, according to police reports.

Dearborn Police report being called to the scene of around 12:30 a.m. Aug. 4 by a resident who saw a structure on fire at the park.

According to the man, he was driving on the Ford Road service ramp when he saw a fire in the park's skating rink. Then, he told police, he spotted someone dousing a nearby vending machine with a liquid and setting it on fire.

He immediately pulled into the park to investigate and call police, at which time the purpetrator fled the scene, running west through the park. The caller was unable to get a good look at the person responsible.

Police and fire responded to the park, and the fire at the net inside of the skating rink was estinguished; the fire on the vending machine burned itself out.

Police said a half-smoked cigar was found on the cement, but no other leads were seen.
