City Works to Clean Up Mess Left from Monday's Storm

Storms left thousands of Dearborn residents, businesses and streets without power, while bombarding the police, fire and public works departments with calls asking for help.

A roughly 15-minute period of heavy winds, rain and lightening was all it took.

Now, in the wake of , thousands are still without power, businesses are running off of generators and tree limbs are more ubiquitous than cars in Dearborn's west end.

The Dearborn Police Department reports that it received about 500 911 calls Monday, while the Dearborn Fire Department went out on 156 runs.

Three of those runs were for , plus two garage fires, the department reports.

Additionally, the city relayed 70 reports of downed trees, 100 reports of downed wires and 20 patients transported to the hospital. Most of those, however, were not related to the storm, the fire department reports.

The city is providing several free services to help those affected by Monday's storm.

Dry ice will be to residents without power at the .

Additionally, the Department of Public Works is providing tree limb removal services.

Dearborn residents are advised to put large branches at the curb. Residents can also bundle smaller limbs that have been cut into four feet or less. These bundles will be picked up on the regular trash day days.

"Due to the number of limbs that will need to be processed, DPW anticipates that it may take a minimum of two to three weeks for all the limbs to be removed," the department said in a statement Tuesday morning.

The city reminds residents, however, that removal of branches from personal property–including yards, roofs, driveways and garages–is the responsibility of the homeowner.
