Canton Mother Faces Charges in Infant Daughter's Death

Woman faces charges amid allegations infant's death wasn't immediately reported to authorities.

Update: Charges have been dismissed in this case.

A Canton mother is facing charges after her newborn daughter was found dead in the home the woman shared with her parents, according to the Canton Observer

Emily Dunklee, 20, could face up to 10 years in prison on charges of disinternment/mutilation of a dead body following allegations of not immediately reporting the infant's death, the report indicated.

Canton Police Detective Sgt. Dave Shreiner told the Observer police were called to a home near Palmer and Sheldon roads Oct. 14, the report indicated. Dunklee was arraigned Friday at 35th District Court, where a not-guilty plea was entered, the report indicated. She was released on a $10,000 personal bond.

According to the report, no information is available on the time period between the infant's death and police being notified.

Tamara, We don't publish names of those arrested until they are arraigned in court, at which point the names are released to the public. In this case, the person's name has already been used in other area media outlets and on public court dockets.

Kimi-You don't know ANYTHING about this case so it's wrong of you to say that she killed her own baby! You need to get a life instead of commenting on other people's lives and tragedies! She is a family member of mine & you have NO IDEA what she has gone through & is going through right now! She is a young, naive girl who has lived a sheltered life w/ extremely strict parents. I have known her for her entire life and know she would not hurt another human being...EVER! I'm assuming that you don't know her so I suggest you keep your uneducated guesses about what happened to yourself. It's a very hard time for our whole family and it makes it much harder for us when we have to read comments from people who don't know what they're talking about. All you are doing is being cold and hurtful. Please stick to commenting on those things you KNOW about. Unless, of course, you were there! Do you derive some satisfaction from making people feel bad? If so, you should be ashamed!!! You need to take a look at yourself before passing judgement & saying someone killed her own child! She's going through enough right now, I just hope to God that she doesn't have to read your thoughtless, hurtful comments! She's hurting enough! Think about that! And next time, think twice about what you are going to say & how it may make someone feel before you start typing. And Amy, thank you for your sensitivity towards her & our family. Apparently you have compassion for others, I truly thank you for that.

Oh, and one more thing Kimi- do yourself a favor and read the updated story...the baby was stillborn. You may now remove your foot from your mouth! I hope you're thoroughly embarrassed about your thoughtless, insensitive remarks! As you should be!

Irritated Reader- I am not one to comment on online message boards but your statements have intrigued me enough to respond. First and foremost, I am very sorry for the pain your family is going through, this article reads like a nightmare. I do disagree with your directive to have kimmi remove her foot from her mouth, there is no difinitive proof wether the child was born still born or not. Just read the connected articles, the medical examiner could not rule out the possibility the child was in fact born alive. Also, being a devout Catholic myself, I was too brought up by strict parents. I will tell you this, they make it pretty evident sex leads to babies. They also state all life is sacred... She may be "sheltered" as you say, but she had the responsability as a mother, a member of her faith, just the general humanity, to protect this helpless child. Being naive and sheltered does not override compassion for the infant. At the very least her choices where poor and frankly "irritated reader," you aren't really doing her any favors for her by policing these boards... If you are so concerned that the above comments will damage her even farther than she already is, keep her offline, keep her "naive." Like it or not, there was evidence to bring charges and sounds like Wayne County might still have some yet to come.
