Man Charged in Benihana Shooting Turns Himself in to Police

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Darrius Demarr Greene, will be arraigned today at 1:30 p.m.

The man suspected of shooting a 43-year-old Ann Arbor man at the Benihana restaurant near Fairlane Mall on Nov. 12, turned himself in on Monday to the Harper Woods Police Department.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Darrius Demarr Greene, of Detroit, was later transported to the Dearborn Police Department. He will be arraigned today at 1:30 p.m. before 19th District Judge William Hultgren.

According to witnesses who were at the restaurant when the shooting occurred, the victim was dining when Greene walked in and the two started arguing.

Greene later pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the stomach, police reported.  Preliminary investigation showed that the men knew each other prior to the incident.

“Greene made the right choice and decided to turn himself [in], realizing his capture was imminent," said Police Chief Ronald Haddad, in a statement. "I would like to thank our regional partners, the US Marshals for their collaborative efforts in attempting to locate Greene, who had fled the state shortly after the incident.”
