Benihana Car Theft Second in a Week

A second restaurant employee has reported a stolen car during the week of Christmas. Other reported crimes are a TV stolen from a fitness center and an attempted purse snatching.

Another Benihana car theft

Less than a week after a employee reported that his 1994 Oldsmobile was stolen from the restaurant's parking lot while he was at work on Dec. 18, another employee reported a car theft.

At 4 p.m. Dec. 24, an employee of the restaurant, at 18601 Hubbard Dr., parked his girlfriend's 2002 Dodge Intrepid in the parking lot and went in to work. At 7 p.m., he went out to the parking lot and the vehicle was gone. A GPS and his girlfriend's Social Security card were inside the car.

There is no sign as to whether the car thefts are related.

TV stolen from fitness center

Overnight on Dec. 23, a 37-inch flat-screen television worth around $600 was pulled off the wall and stolen from the fitness center at Lincoln Lane Apartments. The TV was stolen between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m.

The apartment complex's maintenance supervisor reported the theft, and told police there were no surveillance cameras on the premises. Police found no signs of forced entry to the main office building, where the center is located. The main building is separate from the apartment buildings. There are no suspects.

Neighbor arrested for home invasion, theft

A homeowner on the 7800 block of Morrow Circle reported Dec. 23 that a neighbor's daughter had entered the home uninvited, stolen a purse and ran back to her house next door.

The suspect entered the home and several residents, who were upstairs, heard the commotion and came down to find their neighbor looking "surprised" by their presence. The neighbor then asked to use a phone, and convinced all members of the household to leave the room. She was then observed grabbing a purse, which contained two wallets, credit cards and several other items, and exited through the front door.

Police arrived and searched the suspect's backyard, finding footprints to the snow that led them to trashcans, where the stolen items had been stashed – some in the trashcan, others half-buried in the snow.

The suspect was arrested and charged with home invasion, a felony. All stolen goods were recovered except for one of the two wallets.
