Arrests Made in Check 'N Go Robbery, Bomb Threat

Three suspects were arraigned this week on robbery, bomb threat and firearm charges.

Three Detroit residents have been arrested as suspects in the Aug. 3 .

On the afternoon of Aug. 5, Dearborn police arrested 18-year-old Detroit resident Kami Marable. The following day, they arrested 38-year-old Detroit resident Dechaun Smith. On Aug. 8, a third suspect–57-year-old Detroit resident Leon Crawford–was also arrested in connection with the robbery.

All three suspects have been arraigned in the on charges of three counts of armed robbery, one count of making a bomb threat, and one count of felony firearm posession.

The Aug. 3 robbery occurred at around 10:30 a.m., according to Dearborn police. Two people walked into the Check 'n Go on Michigan Avenue with handguns, demanding money. They advised employees that they had placed a duffle bag containing a bomb near the door, which they would detonate if any employees attempted to follow them.

A Crime Stoppers reward was offered for information leading to arrests of the perpetrators.

Dearborn police said in a statement that tips provided by the public and assistance from the U.S. Marshals service helped lead to the arrests of Smith, Marable and Crawford.

“We work every day to earn the public's trust and confidence and are extremely grateful for their support and assistance," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad in a statement.

Smith and Marable were arraigned Aug. 8 before Judge Mark Somers, while Crawford was arraigned Aug. 10 before Judge Richard Wygonik. Bonds of $500,000 cash were set for Crawford and Marable, while a $1 million bond was set for Smith. All three will be required to wear GPS tethers if their bond is posted.

A preliminary exam date has been set for all three defendants for 9 a.m. Aug. 19 at the 19th District Court.
