PHOTOS: Dearborn Firefighters Sling Drinks for Donations on September 11

Funds raised will go toward the Friends of Firefighters cause in New York.

Dearborn firefighters spent the 11th anniversary of 9/11 the only way they could think of: raising funds to help first responders of the attacks in New York, and their families.

Several firefighters spent Tuesday night slinging drinks for tips in their signature "fundraising boots" at

All funds raised will go to Friends of Firefighters, a Brooklyn-based organization that provides professional and peer counseling–mostly free of charge–to past and present members of the Fire Department of New York affected by 9/11, as well as their families.

The organization also works to help families of firefighters hurt by 9/11.

The Dearborn Fire Hockey Team will also host a charity hockey game on Sept. 21 for the same cause. Then, several members of the fire department plan to deliver the funds raised in person, while visiting Ground Zero in New York City.
