3 Charged with Operating Illegal Sports Betting Ring at Dearborn Sandwich Shop, Bar
Dozens of bettors from metro Detroit may have been involved in the alleged illegal gambling ring, putting the "safety of Michigan citizens ... in jeopardy," Attorney General Bill Schuette says.
Three Dearborn men are being charged for their involvement in an Internet sports gambling operation that Attorney General Bill Schuette says involved dozens of bettors from metro Detroit.
The charges come after a police investigation by the Fraser Police Department, MLive reports.
Charges were filed against Ray Arfan, 42, the alleged ringleader of a sports gambling operation based out of the Avenue Bar, 13277 Michigan and a Subway restaurant at 12841 Michigan.

Two accomplices – Nesti Konini, 48, and Ali Samir Hamoud, 31 – were also charged.
Together, the three men face 10 gambling related charges.

"Arfan accepted wagers on sporting events and the operation provided gamblers with accounts to use on an internet website," Schuette's office said in a statement Tuesday. "When a player needed to add money to an account or receive payment he would do that at one of Arfan's businesses. …”
The two also helped process payments and recruit new bettors, MLive said.
