3 Car Thefts Reported in Dearborn

The following information was supplied by the Dearborn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Three cars were stolen in Dearborn during the last three days of July, extending the city’s and the to warn residents of vehicle-related crimes.

A 2011 white Honda Civic was stolen from its parking spot outside July 29, according to Dearborn police. The victim said she left the car at 6 p.m. and returned at 9:45 p.m. to find a different car in her spot, a police report said.

The 20-year-old Plymouth woman said she was not late on car payments, adding that her boyfriend—who has the only other set of keys—didn’t take the vehicle, the report said. There was no broken glass at the scene.

Another vehicle theft occurred the following day, when a 2004 dark blue Ford Explorer was taken from the 4600 block of Korte Street, a police report said. The car also contained a Nintendo DS gaming system.

The victim told police she parked her SUV on the street at 2 p.m., and it was gone by 9 p.m., according to the report. There was no broken glass at the scene and several family members denied having the vehicle, the report said.

The third car theft spanned less than 30 minutes, as a gold 2003 Dodge Caravan was stolen between 2-2:30 p.m. July 31, Dearborn police said.

The vehicle was parked in front of the victim’s house on the 7500 block of W. Morrow Circle, a police report said. There was no broken glass at the scene and the victim had the vehicle’s only set of keys.

The rash of vehicle thefts nearly continued, as a thief attempted to steal a blue 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan on July 31, Dearborn police said.

The victim told police someone tried to take his car between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. It was parked in front of his house on the 7900 block of Maple Avenue. The car owner noticed his driver-side door damaged and the car’s ignition punched, according to Dearborn police.
