Ulysses S Grant

In Ulysses Simpson Grant's personal memoirs, he made an interesting observation. Grant wrote his memoirs while dying of throat cancer. Heavy drink and cigar smoking wasn't forgiving. He needed the money from his memoirs as financial legacy for his wife. Samuel Langhorne Clemens, also know as Mark Twain, helped Grant in writing his history. Grant regarded the Civil War as God's retribution for Washington's usurpation of its authority and power in the Mexican American War for expansion. Grant was a junior office during that war and served under General Winfiield Scott. Before acquiring Grant's two volumed memoirs, I made a similar observation about the tragic Vietnam War- absolution for Washington's transgressions in Central and South America and elsewhere in the world.  Points made that will not be found in school history books.  The "Domino Theory" of communist expansion failed to take into account the enmity between China and Vietnam that resulted in a number of wars between the two countries. Nationalism is the primary  driving force of nations, ahead all other "Isims".   P3
