Rich History-Legacy

Activities of pure joy for 2013- Participated in voter-registration activities after  swearing in of new citizens at Byblos in East Dearborn this passed spring. Also voter-registration activities for seniors in high schools in Dearborn and Dearborn Heights. Served with other volunteers in the Dearborn Historical Museum program of exposing all Dearborn second graders to early Dearborn history. My task, teaching the activities that were a part of the one room school house. This one is for all you Salina Alumni/Southend boys- While working with Rudy Constantine for several years now on the rich historical archives of Salina School that date back to the 19 teens- all of which has been documented and placed into a data base with hard copies placed in two locked four drawer file cabinets that can be accessed by appointment- I came across many trophies hidden in nooks and crannies in the school. Some of the trophies date back to 1928 when Salina played Fordson and tied for the city championship in football. Other trophies included academic achievement, George Martin and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Awards Those many trophies lost to public view were cleaned, polished and repaired, and are now on permanent display in the showcase they were originally displayed  in during the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s. The showcase sits between the two doors to the old gym. Rudy is in the finishing stage of his book about the Southend and Salina School. I'm told, I still walk with that typical Southend swagger that never crossed the street to avoid anyone. I still don't. Proud to be reared in the rich/vibrant immigrant community called the Southend  P3
