Manifest Destiny

In Ulysses Simpson Grant's personal memoirs he stated that he thought the Civil War was God's retribution for Washington's usurpation of its power in the Mexican-American War. An expansionist policy of territorial acquisition.  The Monroe Doctrine was soon abandoned under the grand design of Manifest destiny. In 1998 Washington finally came clean in how the USS Maine battle ship was sunk in Havana harbor. Not by a Spanish torpedo, but by an internal boiler explosion. Washington blamed Spain and used this blame to rally the American public for war against Spain. A war won in short order with the infamous charge of Teddy Roosevelt up San Quan Hill. New territory was the game- the Philippines  and Cuba.  Driven by "Manfest Destiny" and the "White Man's Burden" Washington's policy objectives have remained constant throughout the last two hundred years. The only thing that has changed is the mechanics of approaching and achieving the goal; all depending on the kind of resistance from countries that refuse to allow Washington to interfere in their internal affairs. Economics and the IMF have become an a tool to leverage countries in the same way that the military and the threat of invasion was used to intimidate countries. Policies have remained the same, and the benefactors have remained unchanged- Banking interests and multi-national corporations and their "FREEDOM" to exploit others, including Americans.  P3
