Garage use oridinance

Do you feel it's the city's business as to what we store or use our household garages for?   The city wants to pass an ordinance stating exactly how garages are to be used.
They don't want them used as additional rooms for parties, etc.
I use my garage for  parties, have it heated with 100,000 btu furnaces, air conditioned, plenty of 110 and 220 power so myself, friends and cars are comfortable throughout the year.
The city has bigger problems rather than telling folk how to use their  garages.  I had to pull permits to do my garage mods, which was not a problem.  The city said fine.  Now they have a problem? Not in my view.   Do you agree??
