Basic Fundamentals

Some years ago, the Detroit Sunday newspaper baseball sports section would provide all the statistics of the game in the major leagues. Individual player stats and team stats, hitting percentage, home runs RBIs, etc.. The stats also included fielding percentages, put outs, double plays, errors, etc.. The teams with the good fielding percentages generally were the ones to finish high and compete in the championship game. The sport section on sunday no longer has team fielding percentages, a basic fundamental of the game.  I figured that the Detroit Tigers were lacking in team fielding. This past week one of the game announcers  made the point that the Tigers were 23 in the League in fielding. Folks, this is not championship caliber play. Another basic fundamental of the game is base running. This past week saw some of the worst base running by a professional team that cost the TigersT rallies and a game. The flash of home runs can never fully fulfill what it takes to winning games. Basic fundamentals always deliver championships.  P3
