Councilwoman's Husband to be Entombed at Arlington National Cemetery

A public memorial service for Dearborn resident John Robert Dmytro will take place at 1 p.m. in the Fairlane Room at the Dearborn Inn on July 7.

Dmytro, 89, husband of councilwoman Nancy Hubbard, died on June, 7. He will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

Dmytro was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Dec. 1, 1923, the son of Antoinette Kapsi and Dmytro Dmytryshyn. He graduated from Hamtramck High School and continued his education at Stanford Connecticut University.

He was a World War II veteran who served in the Army as a side gunner on a B-24 bomber, 760th Bombardment Squadron, 460th Bombardment Group. He was a staff sergeant when his plane was shot down over enemy lines near Hamburg, Germany.

Dmytro was missing in action as a POW for 73 days and was awarded various honor medals for his service. The medals include the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars and the Distinguished Flying Cross with three oak leaf clusters, and Distinguished Unit Emblem.

He worked for RCA Victor promoting various recording artists to include Bobby Darin, Eddie Fisher, and the McGuire Sisters. He later retired from Ford Motor Company as an analyst.

Dmytro is survived by his loving wife, Nancy A. Hubbard, daughter Nancy Dmytro Costello, sons John (Barton) and Jeff  Dmytro; daughter-in-law, Sherry Matelic Dmytro; son-in-law, Tom Costello; and grandsons Ryan and Jack Costello.
