Sustainability Tip of the Day: Water-Efficient Fixtures

In honor of the University of Michigan-Dearborn's Sustainability Week, we're bringing you one tip per day on what you can do to help.

The is hosting their annual Sustainability Week Oct. 17-20. This year's focus is water.

Here's one idea for what you can do to help:

The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that if one out of every 100 homes in the U.S. switched to water-efficient fixtures, we could avoid adding 80,000 tons of greenhouse gas to the atmosphere.

To begin transitioning your home to be more water-efficient today, there are several options. Energy Star appliances can save water and electricity in your home. Plus, they're guaranteed to cut down on gas, water and electricity bills.

Consumers interested in saving water without sacrificing quality can check out the EPA's WaterSense program, which lists reputable manufacturers, builders and more aimed at water efficiency without lowered quality.
