Recap: Dearborn Rotary's Homecoming Event a Fishy Success

Here's a look at how the club's annual fishing derby fared at the 2012 Homecoming Festival.

A total of 36 children under the age of 12 caught 49 fish during the Fishing Derby at . The event was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Dearborn and with fishing supplies provided by Eppinger Manufacturing Co. of Dearborn.

This was the eighth year that the Rotary Club has organized and sponsored the event in a reservoir adjacent to the Rouge River and . Families of participating children, as well as local rotarians, attended the event.

“The poles and bait are free,” said Merritt Robertson, Dearborn Rotarian and event chair. “It’s a fun activity for families and for our Rotarians.”

Children also enjoyed strawberry jello worms provided by Rotarian Sue Waters.

The longest fish caught this year was 14 inches, a largemouth bass. Another fish was 12 inches long. All of the fish were released back into the Rouge River. Prizes are awarded for the longest and most fish caught in three different age groups.
