Dearborn Lecture Part of Series of Events Honoring Holocaust Hero Raoul Wallenberg

The Henry Ford Centennial Library will host a lecture about Wallenberg Aug. 2.

Dearborn's Henry Ford Centennial Library will host a lecture this week as part of a series of events commemorating what would have been the 100th birthday of Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat known for rescuing tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews in 1944.

The event is part of a weeklong series, which includes an exhibit and week of programs through Aug. 5 at the Holocaust Memorial Center Zekelman Family Campus in Farmington.

Attorney and author Morris Wolff will present “Exploring Raoul Wallenberg in History and Literature” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at the HFCL in Dearborn. Following his talk, Wolff will sign copies of his book “Whatever Happened to Raoul Wallenberg?”. The book will be available for purchase.

The event is co-sponsored by the Dearborn Public Library, the Holocaust Memorial Center, the Mardigian Library, and Voice/Vision Archive at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Celebrating the centennial of Wallenberg’s birth, the exhibit and programs will shed light on the life, courage and Michigan connections of a man who rescued thousands of Jews in Nazi-occupied Hungary. While serving as Sweden's special envoy in Budapest between July and December 1944, Wallenberg issued protective passports and sheltered Jews in buildings designated as Swedish territory saving tens of thousands of lives.
