Dearborn Family to Host Open House Fundraiser for Animal Shelter
Dearborn City Councilman Robert Abraham and his family will open their home on July 21 in hopes that visitors will open their hearts and donate to the Dearborn Animal Shelter.
A Dearborn family is hosting a fundraiser for the –both in memory of a beloved lost pet, and in hopes that their efforts can help save animals in need.
Dearborn City Councilman Robert Abraham and his family are holding their second annual Open House event July 21 to raise funds for the shelter's Hope's Heroes program.
Hope's Heroes helps care for animals that come into the shelter with extreme injuries or special needs.

But more than just a general love for animals, the open house helps the Abrahams memorialize their Labrador Retriever, Dublin, who was killed in a house fire that destroyed their home in 2009. Abraham, his wife Mary Ann, daughter Mary Kate, and sons Brandon and Jared were not home at the time of the fire, but felt the tremendous loss of their family pet.
To help find a way to honor Dublin, the Abrahams chose to support the Dearborn Animal Shelter with proceeds benefiting the special Hope’s Heroes fund.

“You can always replace your house and your possessions, but you can’t replace a pet who has been a member of the family,” said Abraham. “This seemed like a fitting way for our family to honor him and help the Dearborn Animal Shelter, which benefits so many in our community.”
Shelter Director Elaine Greene added that the Hope's Heroes program, in particular, needs funding to continue helping animals with extreme needs.
“In the past six months, we have cared for more than the average number of animals coming through our doors with special needs,” said Greene. “These included a kitten and a young dog that both needed amputations, animals that were given a second chance at life because of the support of donors to our Hope’s Heroes fund.”
The public is invited to attend the open house which will be held on Saturday, July 21, from 5-9 p.m. at the family’s home located at 510 Crescent Drive in Dearborn. Dinner and refreshments will be served along and live entertainment.
Contributions of $50 per person are suggested, but any and all donations are welcome. If unable to attend, donations can also be made online at www.dearbornanimals.org/donate/sponsor-an-animal/hopes-heroes.
