Dearborn Businesses Make 'Best of Detroit 2013' List

Hour Detroit magazine's annual rankings are based on reader balloting.

Dearborn earned bragging rights for making the 'Best of Detroit 2013' list in Hour Detroit's June edition.

The Metro Detroit lifestyle magazine's annual rankings of food, drinks, shopping, media, services, people, leisure and more are based on reader balloting. Among the favorites were Dearborn's own Miller’s, voted Best Burger in Wayne County; and Merchant’s Fine Wine, voted Best Fine Wine Store in Wayne County.

Dennis Miller, who co-owns Miller's with his brother Mark, said being named top burger shop in metro Detroit is an honor.

"It's always nice to be recognized for what you do," Miller said.

The family-owned business has been churning out its popular hamburgers for more than 50 years, and was recognized by GQ magazine as one of the top 10 burger joints in the country.

The secret, according to Miller, is using quality ingredients. Miller said the pub has been using the same fresh ground round beef every day for the past 55 years.

"We receive between 400 to 600 pounds of freshly ground beef daily. I'd say we make about 800 to 1,000 sandwiches a day," he said.

And while some restaurants like to dress up their burgers with lettuce, tomato and onion, a traditional Miller burger comes with none of the typical condiments.

"Lettuce and tomato are for Burger King. If you want anything on our burgers, your options are ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard and pickles," he said.

In addition to their burgers, the pub also offers chicken, ham, grilled cheese, tuna and corned beef sandwiches.
