The Brush-Up Rehearsal for "A Little Night Music" at The Players Guild of Dearborn

A post describing the Brush-Up Rehearsal for "A Little Night Music" at The Players Guild of Dearborn.

We had the Brush-Up Rehearsal for A Little Night Music last night. Our director, Harold Jurkiewicz, was at a preview performance of another show. Bob Jones, our Angel, is on ticket duty tonight, so he only stayed for a little while. Rich Bulleri stayed for the Act I. So, I ran the rehearsal.

Two cast members were absent. Rich read in for them. Paul Abbott, our Music Director, was there at 7:00PM, but had to leave for a time before we began. We used recorded music to cue the actors until Paul got back. He arrived back during "A Weekend in the Country," slid onto his piano bench, and picked up as though it was supposed to be that way.

John Sczomak and Mike Moseley ran the lights as David Reynolds, II, our Lighting Director, needs to miss several performances. Chris Boudreau, our Sound Guy, wasn't there so we didn't have the few sound cues.

Brush-up rehearsals have the potential to become a waste of time. The actors usually aren't in costumes. Only some of the props are used. The general atmosphere is more relaxed. All of this can lead to a pretty unproductive time.

This cast and crew, however, handled this one like a bunch of pros. About the only screwing around was some light-hearted kidding over dropped lines. They ran the whole show with all the dialog and all the songs. John and Mike did a great job with the light cues.  Dave Wood and his Stage Crew (Laura Tyler, Jamie Tyler, Dave Kanclerz, and all of the cast members) and James Mayne, our Technical Director, made all of the the set changes. We started a little after 7:30PM and finished a little before 10:30PM. It was a good rehearsal.
