AT THE GUILD - BoeingBoeing and Rabbit Hole

BoeingBoeing, the Guild’s current and third production of the 2013-14 season has its final three performances this weekend: January 24-26. The show has been playing to rave reviews. The house rocks with laughter during the show. Audiences have been leaving the theatre with broad smiles and generous compliments.

This 1960s French farce features self-styled Parisian lothario, Bernard, who has Italian, German, and American fiancées, each a beautiful airline hostess with frequent “layovers.” He keeps “one up, one down and one pending” until unexpected schedule changes, and advances in airline technology, bring all three to Paris and Bernard’s apartment at the same time. Adding to the problems are Bernard’s befuddled housekeeper, who juggles décor and menus for each girl, and an unexpected visit from Robert, an old school friend who gets caught in the middle of Bernard’s romantic revolving doors.

BoeingBoeing is directed by long-time Guild favorite, Brian Townsend, assisted by John Sczomak and Kevin Talanges. The show was produced by Mike Moseley. The cast features Alex Gojkov as Bernard, Nick Graham as Robert, Kori Bielaniec as Gloria Hawkins, Jennifer Beitzel as Gretchen, Jillian Drapala as Gabriella, and Margaret Kinnell as Berthe.

Meanwhile, production work on Rabbit Hole, the season fourth show has already begun. The cast had a read-through on the evening of January 16 and a rehearsal on January 20 during which Scene I-1 was blocked. A pre-production meeting was held on January 20 to discuss the set design, lights and sound, property needs, costuming, and hair and make-up and other aspects of the production.

Rabbit Hole tells the heart-wrenching story of Becca and Howie who are trying to recover from the accidental death of their four-year-old son eight months earlier. When Becca’s sister Izzy, always the family troublemaker, announces that she is pregnant, Becca and Howie must come to terms with the new life in the family while dealing with their grief. Unexpectedly, the young man responsible for their son’s death wishes to see them. Becca and Izy’s mother, Nat, compounds the situation by comparing Danny’s death to the death by suicide of her drug addicted son, Arthur. Deeply humane, occasionally funny and always heartrending, Rabbit Hole explores the ways we deal with grief, both individually and as families.

Rabbit Hole was written by David Lindsay-Abaire. It is being produced in cooperation with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

The Players Guild of Dearborn production is directed by Lindel Salow, assisted by Shardai Davis. The cast includes Sarah Zakaria as Becca, Jeff Flannery as Howie, Kori Bielaniec as Izzy, Roberta Shortt as Nat, and Kevin Talanges as Jason.
