WWII Vets Get Noteworthy Send-Off to Paris for D-Day Observance

When she learned an overseas flight to Paris included World War II veterans going to Normandy for the 70th anniversary of D-Day, a Delta gate attendant broke into song.

A Delta Airlines gate attendant sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” for a group of 60 World War II veterans who left the Detroit Metropolitan Airport on a flight bound for Paris Monday.

The veterans are headed Normandy, France, for the 70th observance of D-Day on June 6, WXYZ, Channel 7, reports.

Anna Marie Barile’s patriotic serenade over the public address system was an impromptu salute to the veterans. Barile also works as an Italian interpreter for Delta.

The eyes of passengers waiting in the boarding area reportedly brimmed with tears over the patriotic tribute.
