Dearborn's First Fall Elderfest Happens This Friday

Originally part of Dearborn Homecoming, the event was moved to cooler temps and a more relaxed scene.

Senior citizens can enjoy all the traditional fun offered by Dearborn’s Elderfest, but this year in a cooler and calmer environment from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14.

Elderfest had been part of the city’s Homecoming Festival in August for decades, but this year, it will be a stand-alone event at the North Shelter of .

Organizers said the hoped the milder weather and ample parking would draw in more senior citizens for free activities designed just for them.

Autumn Elderfest is organized by the Senior Services Division of the Dearborn Recreation and Parks Department. The presenting sponsor is Oakwood Healthcare.

Included are a free breakfast, bottled water, hot dogs, soft pretzels, soft drinks and ice cream. There will also be bingo, warm-up exercises before the annual Fun Walk with Mayor Jack O’Reilly, music by the Meltones, bocce ball, the Anniversary Waltz and a raffle.

Oakwood will also conduct blood pressure checks.

In addition to Oakwood, sponsors are Henry Ford Village, Outer Drive Kiwanis, Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, Judge Mark Somers, Heartland, Exchange Club of Dearborn, The Hearing Center of Excellence, Assurant Care LLC, Wayne County Commission Chairman Gary Woronchak, Congressman John Dingell, The Dearborn Inn, and State Rep.
