Dearborn Recreation to Host Community Expo Wednesday

The event will introduce residents to a variety of activities and classes available in Dearborn.

New and old residents alike will benefit from a "refresher course" in all Dearborn's Recreation and Parks Department has to offer with the Community Expo, to be held Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center.

The expo runs from 7-8:30 p.m., and will feature information and representatives from youth and adult activity groups.

“This an a great opportunity for people to learn more about the facilities, activities, programs and sports available through our department and our many partnership organizations,” Recreation Director Greg Orner said in a statement.

A variety of youth sports groups are partnership organizations of the Dearborn Recreation & Parks Department.

They are: Dearborn Baseball, Metro Basketball Association, Dearborn Soccer Club, Dearborn Track Club, Dearborn Youth Football Association, Dearborn Hockey Association, Dearborn Figure Skating Club, Dearborn Dolphins Swim Club, Junior Pro Basketball and Dearborn Community Tennis Association.

Partnership organizations from the cultural arts are the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra, Dearborn Youth Symphony, Vanguard Voices, Dearborn Community Chorus, Motor City Brass Band, Dearborn Community Arts Council and the Dearborn Community Fund.

Representatives from the department’s many partnership organizations will be available in the lobby area to answer questions and pass out information concerning their specific organization. 

In the Hubbard Ballroom, hockey players from the Dearborn Hockey Association and synchronized skaters from the Dearborn Figure Skating Club will demonstrate practice techniques.

In Studio A, a free Zumba class will be offered to the first 70 arrivals.

The event also will feature free admission beginning at 5 p.m. to The Center’s fitness area, including the swimming pools, gymnasiums and exercise area, and aerobics classes.

In addition, a special one-day promotional membership offer will be available to all attendees, providing a 30-day membership to The Center for just $30.

The expo will also feature T-shirt giveaways; drawings for iPods, theater tickets, fitness passes and Boo Bash tickets; and refreshments, courtesy of Coke.
