McCollough Elementary Students Help Dearborn Keep its Tree City USA Stripes

A tree planted on the school campus was dedicated to the memory of former Dearborn Mayor Michael A. Guido, who died in 2006.

Students from Jean Manwell’s first-grade class at McCollough Elementary School in Dearborn got some hands-on experience with environmentalism when they assisted the city’s Department of Public Works plant a Serviceberry tree on school property on Monday.

The students, who have been learning  this year about the environment, shared what they know about why trees are important and how to be “green.” The tree was dedicated in memory of former Dearborn Mayor Michael A. Guido, who died in 2006.

His widow, Kari Guido, visited the school and helped with the planting, and thanked the students and staff for their dedication and for honoring her late husband.
