Arbor Hospice Donations Create Grateful Families

Since 1984, Arbor Hospice has provided quality, compassionate care to patients, and their families, experiencing life-limiting illnesses throughout southeast Michigan. Last year, Arbor Hospice served a record number of 2,038 patients, many through the Plymouth office.

Arbor Hospice is committed to providing the best possible care to patients and families during these difficult times. The care and kindness of the Arbor Hospice staff is often recognized by patients and many grateful families have been compelled to share their stories.  Following are those stories:

Ben and Kim Green have adopted 12 children from all over the world. And the latest, they knew, would require immediate hospice care…read their story here.

HOW YOU CAN HELP SUPPORT A GRATEFUL FAMILY

Your generous support will help ensure Arbor Hospice continues providing quality, compassionate care to many more grateful families.  Your end-of-year, tax-deductible contribution – to the Arbor Hospice Foundation – will benefit patients and their families throughout southeast Michigan.

Make a donation online at www.arborhospice.org or by calling (734) 794-5338.

Donations fund four key areas of programs and services, including:

  • Uncompensated and Charity Care – Arbor Hospice serves more than 250 people every day in their own homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or The Residence of Arbor Hospice where the cost for care is often not fully covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance reimbursement.  Additionally, Arbor Hospice provides care to patients and families who don’t have insurance or the ability to pay for services on their own. This past year, Arbor Hospice provided $550,000 in uncompensated care.

  • Complementary Therapies – Arbor Hospice offers a wide range of therapies designed to provide comfort to patients and control symptoms wherever they call “home.” These include music, massage and pet therapies. This past year, The Arbor Hospice Foundation raised $100,000 for complementary therapies that provided 2,070 therapy visits.

  • Pediatric Hospice Services – Due to higher medication costs, specially-sized medical equipment and families’ emotional needs, pediatric hospice service is often more expensive than that for adults. Arbor Hospice cares for an average of 20 pediatric patients each year. This past year, Arbor Hospice provided more than $200,000 in support of pediatric hospice patients and their families.

  • Grief Support Services – Arbor Hospice provides a comprehensive grief support program for children, adults and families in the community for 13 months following a loved one’s death. Grief support programs are also available free of charge to community members, whether or not a loved one received care from Arbor Hospice. Grief support is funded by philanthropy. This past year, Arbor Hospice served more than 5,340 individuals through grief support services at a cost of $320,000.
