WAS JACK LONDON A "NATURE FAKER"?

The Big Read Dearborn

Presentation/discussion: Was Jack London a "Nature Faker": John Burroughs, Teddy Roosevelt, and the Nature Faker Controversy

Americans' increasing interest in nature in the early 20th century led to the publishing of new animal stories, including Jack London's The Call of the Wild.  Renown naturalist, John Burroughs attacked these stories as unscientific and their authors as ill-informed "nature fakers."  Even President Theodore Roosevelt became embroiled in the controversy.

Donna R. Braden, curator of public life at The Henry Ford, will present a talk and lead a discussion on the "nature faker" controversy in the Conference Room of the Benson Ford Research Center at The Henry Ford.
