Koran by Heart, a film by Greg Barker

As part of the Muslim Journeys program at Dearborn Public Library, a special screening of the film, "Koran by Heart" will be presented at the Arab American National Museum auditorium.

The film follows three young students, all 10-years-old, as they travel to Cairo, Egypt to participate in the world-renowned International Koran Competition.  The students are called upon to recite from memory randomly selected verses from the Qu'ran in competition with other contestants from around the world, some nearly twice their age.  For some of these students, Arabic is not their first language.

This film is suitable for all ages.

Following the film, Hajj Abdulameer Hassan al-Saadi, an Islamics/Arabic teacher at MAYA School, along with one of his young students, will answer questions and provide a live demonstration of vocal technique and skill as seen in the film.

This event is FREE and open to the public.
