Dearborn Heights Firefighters 21st Annual Chili Cook-off and Family Picnic

Dear
Sir or Madam:

Greetings
on behalf of the Dearborn Heights Firefighters Union, we hope this day finds
you well.

Once again, we are organizing our 21st
annual “Chili Cook-off”,
scheduled for Saturday, August 17th,
2013
. This community affair, sponsored by the Firefighters, was instituted
to reach out to children who have been injured or disfigured by severe burns. This
special day raises proceeds to send these afflicted children to Pretty
Lake Vacation Camp
, where the children are encouraged to build their
self-esteem, not only by counselors who are attentive to their needs, but also
by interacting with other burn victims.

Great Lakes Burn Camp, a non-profit
organization, will host the weeklong camp this summer, which fosters children
from the ages of 7 to 17. The facility is a 213-acre playground, where the
children have total access to the “good life”, without the constraints of
feeling different or not fitting in. Camping, kayaking, horseback riding,
water-skiing, go-carts, the list goes on and on.

Last year we were able to send 20
children to this camp, at a cost of five hundred dollars per child. However,
without donations we may only send 2 or 3, or even none at all.

Donations (merchandise, retail
items, gift certificate, perishable goods, etc.) received are placed on display
and viewed by all our guests.  The items
that you donate to this event are then raffled-off to guests who purchase
tickets for our prize auction.
Subsequently, the more extravagant the gift we auction off, the more
raffle tickets we sell.  Cash
donations received are applied directly towards a child’s camp fees.

We know that your donations are
costly, but we petition that you would extend yourself the best that you can
for this wonderful cause.  We must
reiterate none of the camp staff members, Board of Directors, Firefighters, or
Chairpersons receive wages for their timely investments—All proceeds go
towards the children’s camp fees.

Please find it in your heart to give
whatever you can, and we hope to see you this summer for one extraordinary
Saturday in August.
