When Do Public Service Days Begin in Dearborn?

Residents should keep parked vehicles off the streets on trash days when Public Service Days begin on April 1.

Editor's note: This press release was submitted by the city of Dearborn.

In order for Dearborn to keep streets clean, the city will begin the new season of Public Service Days the week of April 1.

Parking rules will be enforced. Residents are required to keep vehicles off neighborhood streets from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on their trash days, which are also Public Service Days. Traffic citations will be issued to cars parked on the street.

“Public Service Days allow us to sweep the streets curb to curb, and do other important maintenance work,” said Mayor John O’Reilly, Jr.

“Residents across the city pay for services with their taxes, and they deserve to have them delivered in their neighborhoods in a thorough and effective manner," O'Reilly said. "Keeping cars off the streets gives us that chance.”

Public Service Days also allow for more efficient and safe collection of trash, recyclables and yard waste set at the curb. In addition, crews can better manage tree trimming and sewer and catch basin maintenance.

The city recognizes that keeping vehicles off the streets can be an inconvenience for residents, and suspends Public Service Days in the winter, when it is less likely that maintenance can be performed.

Public Service Days will end for the season on Nov. 30.

Residents cannot park vehicles across the sidewalk or easements or lawns at any time. Trash and recycling carts should not be in the road at any time, either.

When visiting someone in a different neighborhood in Dearborn, it is a good idea to check to see when Public Service Days fall in their area and observe appropriate parking restrictions.
