Weather Alert: Another Ozone Action Day Ahead

Wayne is among eight counties on alert as temperatures expected to break 90 degrees.

Officials with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment have declared Sunday as an Ozone Action Day, meaning there will be elevated levels of ozone in several counties, including Wayne, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Macomb.

The National Weather Service predicts the high will break  90 degrees Sunday, with a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms. Wind gusts could reach up to 22 miles per hour. Sunday night will be partly cloudy with a low near 71 degrees.

The DNR offers these tips to avoid activities that cause ozone formation:

  • Try not to refuel. If you need to refuel, fill up in the evening when the weather is cooler and don’t top off the tank.
  • Refrain from using gas powered lawn equipment.
  • Do no use charcoal or lighter fluid on that grill.
  • Carpool and combine trips in any vehicle.
