This Weekend: Free Fishing Derby for Kids at Camp Dearborn

The event will take place on Sunday from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

Camp Dearborn will host its 16th annual on Sunday, June 10, from 8 a.m. to noon. 

Boys and girls between the ages of three and 15 are invited to take part in this free event.

The fishing competition will be broken into four age categories: 3-5 years old; 6-8 years old; 9-11 years old; and 12-15 years old. Prizes will be awarded in each age category for both the most fish caught, and the biggest fish caught.

Children can enter the derby free of charge but must register upon arrival to compete in their age group. All the young fishermen are asked to bring their own rod, bucket and bait.

Participants should plan to arrive early.

The annual derby is sponsored primarily by Eppinger Manufacturing, the Dearborn Lions Club, Dearborn Police Charities, , Eagle Claw and Times-Herald Newspapers. 

Each year, many more local establishments join to make it a memorable event for the children. This year’s sponsors include Gander Mountain, , , the Dearborn Recreation and Parks Department, Impressions Specialty Advertising, In Stock Marketing, , Michigan Sports Person Heritage Conservancy, Mustad, , Plano Molding, Plastilite, , and .

Camp Dearborn is a family-orientated recreational facility, owned and operated by the City of Dearborn, but open to the public. It is located at 1700 General Motors Road in Milford.

Admission to Camp Dearborn is $4 per vehicle for residents of Dearborn and Milford and $6 per vehicle for all others.

The Children's Fishing Derby falls on the Michigan Department of Natural Resources' annual Summer Free Fishing Weekend, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10. On that weekend, everyone can fish without a license at any applicable Michigan lake or river.
