Sparks Fly: Summer Fireworks Season Begins June 24

In Dearborn, Greenfield Village will host a fireworks show as part of their nightly Salute to America program, June 30-July 3.

Summertime in America is about three things: freedom, baseball and fireworks. Luckily for southeast Michigan residents, there will be plenty of that last element of the equation in the upcoming weeks. While nearby fireworks displays will cluster around Fourth of July weekend this year, there’s a steady stream of action through the first week of August. And it all startsFriday  night.

June 24: in Wyandotte
Fireworks will began at dusk–9:13 p.m., according to Weather.com–and launch from Point Hennepin on the Detroit River. The best viewing areas will be in and BASF Waterfront Parks, where visitors will be asked for voluntary $1 donations to help fund the display. June 27: Downtown Detroit
The Parade Company and Target host the 53rd Annual Target Fireworks 10:06 p.m. Monday, June 27 in Downtown Detroit along the Riverfront. The show will include more than 10,000 pyrotechnics choreographed and will be televised on WDIV Channel 4. Go to www.theparade.org/riverdays.php for more info.

June 30-July 3: Salute to America fireworks at
Each day of the Dearborn museum’s annual tribute to classic American music will end with a Detroit Symphony Orchestra-accompanied firework finale. Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” and live cannon fire will only add to the colorful display above the lawn seats at Walnut Grove historic district.

Advance tickets are available to youth members aged five to 12 for $12 and adults aged 13 and up for $19. Advance ticket prices for non-members are $14 and $22.50, respectively. For day-of ticket prices and more information, visit www.thehenryford.org.

July 4: Trenton Fourth of July Fireworks
The annual Independence Day display will begin at dusk after a live performance by the Downriver Community Band at 8 p.m. The best spot for viewing will be , where admission for the event is free. Additional information can be found at www.trentonmi.org.

July 4: Westland Fourth of July Fireworks
These fireworks are the finale to a five-day long Westland Summer Festival, which includes carnival rides, games and live bands. The fireworks start at dusk, or around 10 p.m., from the Westland City Hall grounds. Viewing areas are numerous, including John Glenn High School and from the festival grounds at Ford Road and Carlson.

July 9: Inkster Summer Festival Fireworks
The festival runs July 9-10, but the fireworks will take place Saturday night at around 10:20 p.m. Admission is free, and fireworks will go off from just off of Inkster Road, north of Michigan Avenue. For more information about the festival, visit www.cityofinkster.com.

August 6 and 7: Dearborn Homecoming Fireworks
The colorful climax to Dearborn’s annual summer celebration at will continue this year at dusk on both Saturday and Sunday evenings. Visit www.cityofdearborn.org for a complete festival lineup.
