Moms Talk: Thumb Sucking

How do you get kids to stop sucking their thumbs? How old is too old? Join the conversation.

Today is the first of a weekly feature on Dearborn Patch intended to reach out to the parents within the community.

Each week, Moms Talk will feature a topic for discussion. You can ask questions, provide your opinion and even answer questions of other parents. We hope to spark open discussions about current issues confronting Dearborn parents. And don't let the title fool you–dads are welcome to chime in, too!

This week's topic is thumb sucking–how do you get your kids to stop, and how old is too old to have a thumb sucker?

This question comes to us from Tracy Besek, a professional photographer and local mom of two kids, ages four and six–both of them thumb suckers.

"We’ve tried everything we can think of to help them break the habit–incentive, bad tasting stuff. So far nothing has worked. It’s mostly an issue now when they are sleeping. So my question is how to get this habit broken for once and for all!"
