Local Women to be Honored at YWCA Awards Luncheon

The YWCA's annual luncheon recognizing local women doing great things will be held Dec. 2 in Dearborn.

Whether it's volunteering in their communities or making strides in their field, the YWCA of Western Wayne County each year honors women who are doing great things at their annual Women of Achievement Luncheon.

This year's event, held Dec. 2 at in Dearborn, will call attention to the work of local women in such fields as education, business, government and community service.

United States Attorney for the Eastern District Barbara McQuade will serve as the keynote speaker for the luncheon. Honorees are as follows:

  • Communications/The Arts - Laila AlHusinni, host of Good Morning Michigan on Radio Baladi
  • Business Leadership - Sandy Mull, Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber
  • Government/Law – Susan Rowe, Wayne City Council
  • Health & Wellness – Elizabeth Goch, Oakwood Health Promotions
  • Leadership in Education – Karen Donald, Community Advocate
  • Dedicated Volunteer –Sandy Boulton, Boulton & Associates
  • Young Woman/Professional – Chrishonda Smith, Trinity Health
  • Senior Woman – Maggie Allesee, Community Activist

According to the YWCA, "The YWCA Women of Achievement event magnifies the mission of the YWCA by empowering women and eliminating racism through the rich history of many outstanding women who have been recognized and honored by the community for their contributions."

The event, which begins at noon, will also include a silent auction and mini boutique. Tickets are $50 and are available online through the YWCA.
