Local Woman Wins Chevy Camaro from Dearborn Firefighters

Resident Sheila Brooks is the grand prize winner of the 2013 Burn Drive and car raffle.

What driver would not want to win a new car? Wednesday, that dream came true for one lucky Dearborn resident.

Hundreds of people crossed their fingers at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center during the annual Dearborn Firefighters Burn Drive in hopes of winning a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro. In the end, however, it was resident Sheila Brooks who won the coveted prize.

According to event organizer Steve Worden, roughly 1,500 tickets were sold for the annual car raffle, whose proceeds benefit sick and injured children in the community.

"Things went great. We had a nice crowd and all the money goes back to help the kids," he said.

More than 25 prizes were given out courtesy of local businesses, including Park Place Caterers, Joe's Top Dog Coney Island, Kenwal Steel Corporation, Dearborn Farm Market and Les Stanford Chevrolet.

"The community always comes together to help out the firefighters," Worden said. "We appreciate all of the support from our local businesses."

Worden said Brooks has not decided if she is going to keep the car or opt for the $40,000 cash prize instead.

"She is still in shock," he said.

Second prize was a Las Vegas trip worth $3,000, and third prize was a 50-inch flat-screen TV.
