History of Local Arab Community Focus of WXYZ's 'Detroit 2020' Segment

The WXYZ 'Detroit 2020' project turned its camera lens on Dearborn recently, and specifically the formation of the local Arab American community.

A new project of Detroit TV station WXYZ–Detroit 2020–recently turned its camera lens on southeast Michigan's Arab American community. How the community settled here, how it has changed and what it means for the region were the topic of an Aug. 16 video focusing largely on Dearborn.

The video starts, layed over images of east Dearborn:

"The Detroit region is the place where the Middle East and the midwest come together. For decades immigrants from the Arab world have made this area their home. They’ve worked, prayed and played here. They’ve felt at home in the community and extended a welcome to others."
